Chair Sample 1

This chair is made by the same company from which we purchased the deck chairs for Fins. I also like it the best, but it is very expensive @ $456 ea. I called a chair manufacturer that I deal who has custom made chairs for me several times and asked them if they could custom-make/duplicate the chair and accommodate us with any alterations in the dimensions so we can have it exactly the size we need. They responded in the affirmative and will custom make them @ $359 ea COM (we suppy fabric)

Chair Sample 2

We can get it in a darker stain of our choice. Also, although it is commercial grade and looks sturdy, we can have them add strut supports between the legs. They are $254 and struts cannot be added because of the curved legs (we supply the fabric)

The dimensions are 18"W x 21.5"D x 36"H with an 18" seat height.

Chair Sample 3

I have a client in Stamford Connecticut who is selling these chairs. They are very well made and I had them “DOUBLE-STUFF” the seat pads when I had them made originally. We could probably get for them $80 each. They were originally $269 including the custom fabric and double stuffing.

Peter Shield’s
Chair Report

According to the staff, the size, shape and style of the new chairs has encroached upon the Dining Room’s SF making it difficult for guests to get out of corners and pull out chairs. It also is difficult for servers reach customers at the far ends because their reach is inhibited by the chairs height.

Please see my assessment below in a series of 3D animations and elevations. Also, if chairs were to be purchased, I would recommend an upholstered chair seat AND back in a smaller shape of the existing chair with the same fabric used for the seat. Any decent chair would normally require a 6-10 week turnaround time which would take you to August. Trying match the chair with a similar combo of wood back and padded seat just wouldn’t work, however and upholster back in the same fabric would. However, I do believe that this process has resulted in a solution that should negate the necessity to purchase any additional chairs could be executed over a period of 2 weeks time.

I propose a modification to the existing new chair’s seat. This modification would result in trimming 16 linear inches from each side and 20 1/2 linear inches from the from front of the chair seat and 0 (zero) linear inches trimmed from the back. adding into the space of the room an additonal 5 “Square Inches” per chair. In the Fireplace Room and Plume Room combined, this would result in a total yield of 15 1/2 SF, (yes that’s SQAURE FEET) 0f space that will be added back into the room, based on 36 chairs. (picture a carpet size 2’ X 7 1/2’ or 24” X 90”) In the Bride’s Room, it would add an additional 13 SF (picture a carpet size 2’ X 6 1/2’ or 24” X 78”)

This added space will enable guests to get out of their chairs more easily and will also add 2-4” inches of space between the chairs that will enable a server to get to leg between the chairs and get closer to the table in order to serve guests at the far end. This variation will depend on how close the guest pulls their chair to the table. Also, in many cases the current chair depending on how close the customer pulls the chair to the table will be prohibited from going too close as the corners of the chairs will touch when placed at a round table for parties. The modification of the seat will allow the guest to pull the chair an additional 3 inches closer to the table if they desire.

This modification will add a little breathing room between tables. Unfortunately in BOTH scenarios, neither the New chair or the New chair with the modification did not enable me to add the (2) 4-Tops to the Fireplace Room but did allow for a LARGE Upholstered chair next to the Fireplace. It did however alleviate the congestion in the Plume Room and in the Bride’s Room.

There are several upholsters in the area. My suggestion would be to have them pickup dozen at a time during the week, return them and then pick-up and additional dozen when he returns the newly modified chairs. I do think all the chairs should be done in the entire dining room. The cost should be minimal as there will be no additional fabric purchased and the only labor involved is trimming down the wood seat just shy of the size of the chair’s frame and then re-upholster the seat so the finished size of the upholstered seat is equal in size and lines up with the frame of the perimeter of the seat. I checked online and there are several local upholsterers. I would suggest he pick-up 8-10 chairs at a time during the weekdays, modify them and then return them for the weekend. Depending on how fast he is, they could all be done in a couple weeks.

Please see exhibits below that illustrate the points made.
